Entrance to Crownhill Fort
Crownhill fort is a Palmerston Fort built between 1864 and 1872. It was intended to be one of a number of forts protecting the Naval Dockyard from land attack by the French. Its utility was soon eclipsed by advances in gunnery. The Army held onto the fort and used it until 1983. It has now been restored as a tourist attraction.
