Bodmin Gaol
Now largely derelict, though part has been converted into a pub, this was the scene of scene of over 50 public hangings in its 150 years of use. Indeed, the first special train to run on the Bodmin & Wadebridge Railway, which opened in 1834 and ran past the gaol's walls, was to carry spectators to one of these events.

Bodmin Gaol
Bodmin Gaol was built in 1779 and closed in 1927. Built by prisoners of war, it was the first British prison to hold prisoners in individual cells. From 1869 the prison also held naval prisoners on behalf of the Admiralty - eventually these would utilise a whole wing of the gaol. Over 50 public hangings took place at the gaol between 1785 and 1909. information from Wikipedia. The gaol is now a museum. In this view we see the interior of the Naval Wing. The roof has long since gone as have the landings outside the individual cells.
