The Doris Gun in Devonport Park

The Doris Gun in Devonport Park
The history of the gun is that it was a South African weapon in the Boer War, and British servicemen transported it 800 hundred miles to their ship HMS Doris. When the ship returned to Devonport it was retained as a memorial to the sailors who died in the war and it was unveiled in the park in 1904 by Admiral E.H. Seymour. Listed grade II (list entry 1390062) as 'a most unusual Boer War memorial'.
