Sandstone obelisk at Ballachulish
This intriguing sculpture seems to lack a name and is therefore described simply as 'Sandstone Obelisk' on an adjacent information board. I gather it stood originally in Fort William when the town's High Street was pedestrianised in 1995. The shape is based on the four Platonic solids representing the elements: earth, air, fire and water. At right angles to the four-sided column is a pentagon terminating at both ends with five triangles showing images of the seasons and pagan symbols - all explained in more detail if you go to see it. Oddly, I didn't spot any indication as to whose creation it is.
