The Jacobite leaves Mallaig
This steam train runs five days a week between Fort William and Mallaig, leaving Mallaig for the return journey at 1410. This day it was 10 minutes late due to the late arrival of the diesel service into Mallaig on the single track line. Note the loco in reverse - no turntable at Mallaig!

"The Jacobite" departs from Mallaig
Regular summer steam hauled trains have operated on the West Highland line between Fort William and Mallaig for many years now. Several different locomotives have been used, being based at Fort William for the season. The one in this view is a class B1 61264, which has operated on the West Highland line services for four seasons. When not operating in Scotland, it is based at Loughborough on the Great Central Railway, but, because of its main line certification, may be seen almost anywhere in the country. It is one of only two remaining loco's of the class which originally numbered 410.
