Neptune?s Staircase
A grand name for a series of canal locks, each one higher than the next, on the Caledonian Canal at Banavie. There is a reason why a view of the locks is shown from the air in picture postcards as it is difficult to get a view of the whole scene at ground level. Distant Ben Nevis from Neptune's Staircase
Clouds above Ben Nevis lifted just as I arrived at Neptune's Staircase on the Caledonian canal. It is Scotlands longest staircase lock.
Caledonian Bears in the foreground produced handmade Teddy Bears in tartan costumes at the time this photograph was taken (I think they have moved to other premises nearby since).
