Inverlochy Castle
Inverlochy castle was built in the 13th century by the Comyn Lords of Lochaber who lost it almost immediately in the Wars of Independence. The castle was restored in the 16th century by the Earls of Huntly. The first battle of Inverlochy occurred in 1431 when the Royal Army of James I was slaughtered by clansmen supporting Alexander Macdonald, the 3rd Lord of the Isles. More than 1000 men were killed. The second battle was during the Civil War in February 1645. The Duke of Argyll's Covenanting Army were routed by the Royalist Army of Montrose whose forced march from Fort Augustus through Glen Roy to Glen Nevis caught the Campbells by surprise.
