The Old Church Tower
Only the tower remains of Auchterarder's third parish church which was built in 1660 and dedicated to St. MacKessog. Reputedly the stone used in its construction was plundered from Kincardine Castle to the south of the town, which was beseiged in 1646 and subsequently used to provide building materials. The church itself was demolished after the new church was built in 1904 with just the tower left standing. On the right of the photo is the war memorial built circa 1920. St. MacKessog came to Loch Lomondside in 510AD to bring Christianity to the people of Argyll.

Election Day - Auchterarder
Candidates boards outside Aytoun Hall in the High Street. A Conservative Party official assists an elderly voter in descending the stairs after casting her vote - it won't do his candidate any good though, she came second behind the sitting Scottish National Party candidate. It would be a historic night for the SNP, making huge gains with many seats won from Labour. The historic opportunity to change the UK voting system from the existing First Past The Post method was rejected on the same day.

The gateway leads into a small churchyard, which houses the war memorial (just visible in the background) commemorating those from Auchterarder who died in the First World War. The metal gates commemorate the Second World War casualties, and a metal plaque attached to the gates lists those who died.
