Tomb of Viscount Haldane of Cloan
Richard Burdon Haldane (1856-1928) was an influential Liberal and later Labour politician. As Secretary of State for War between 1905 and 1912 he introduced reforms to the British Army that sought to address lessons learnt in the 2nd Boer War. The result was the creation of an Expeditionary Force and a Territorial Force. Full details of his reforms can be found on Wikipedia along with details of his life. He was made Viscount Haldane of Cloan in 1911. He was Lord Chancellor between 1912 and 1915 and again in 1924 when he was also leader of the House of Lords.
