This is one of three churches in central Perth dedicated to St John, the others being St John's Kirk (Church of Scotland) and St John's Roman Catholic Church. Greyfriars Burial Ground
This area was converted to a burial ground in 1580. It is the site of the Greyfriars or Franciscan friary founded in 1460 just outwith the medieval burgh, which was dissolved in 1559. The church to the north west is St Johns Episcopal Church in Princes Street.
