Megginch Castle gatehouse
The road in the foreground is the A90 trunk road. The Castle itself is a 15th century tower house that belonged to the family Hays of Leys, who became the Earls of Errol. The castle was much extended in the 18th and 19th centuries. The castle houses a vast collection of stuffed birds and has a 19th century garden with ancient yews, topiary, an astrological garden, a fountain parterre, a courtyard with a dovecote and a walled garden with a long herbaceous border. The castle was used as a location for the filming of Rob Roy in 1994.
