Kinfauns Castle
The castle was designed by Sir Robert Smirke and built in 1822-1825 for on the site of an ancient castle which had been demolished. Kinfauns was the seat of the Charteris family from the 14th century, but had passed out of the family. In the 20th century it was a hotel, and for a time operated by the Countrywide Holidays Association. It is now a private residence of billionaire Ann Gloag, of Stagecoach Buses. She is famous (or perhaps infamous) as being the first landowner to win the right in a court of law to have some of her land exempted from the 'Right to Roam'.
