Scone mercat cross detail
This is one of the few crosses where the finial is actually a cross. You have to strip it mentally of its surrounding foliage decoration to discern that the design is a small Celtic cross.

Scone mercat cross
This requires some explanation which I suspect only a local is qualified to give. But, as I understand it, the village of Old Scone was uprooted around 1804 and moved to New Scone where its church was rebuilt stone by stone and is still called Scone Old Parish Church. While the old village's mercat cross stayed behind—and still stands near its original location in the grounds of Scone Palace—the villagers erected this replica in New Scone.
