View eastward, towards Forfar. I had parked my Honda Accord where I surmised the ex-Caledonian Railway Strathmore Main line, Perth etc. (Stanley Junction) - Forfar - (Kinnaber Junction) - Aberdeen had crossed after closure as a through route from 4/9/67, although local goods Perth - Forfar continued for a few more years. Cargill station had been just ahead here, but was closed to passengers 11/6/56, to goods 6/12/65.

Disused Railway at Cargill
The rail track provides excellent walking for a short while then we came across a section where the ballast has been salvaged and the undergrowth was impenetrable.

Kinclaven Castle
This is part of a four sided castle sitting on flat ground located above the river
Tay. Essentially a square watch tower erected by Malcolm Canmore in the eleventh
century. Not a great deal of the castle remains, the walls seem to be constructed
of a conglomeration of various materials, probably gained from the river bed nearby.

Former railway trackbed
The cutting is still very clear, but caravans have replaced carriages as the old railway line is now a sadly distant memory.
