Dalwhinnie Distillery
The highest distillery in Scotland, it was founded in 1897 as the Strathspey Distillery. The site was chosen for its access to clear spring water from Lochan-Doire-Uaine and abundant peat from the surrounding bogs. The distillery owners were bankrupt within a year and sold the distillery in 1898, as a result of which it was renamed the Dalwhinnie Distillery. The full history is available on Wikipedia. The majority of production from this distillery is used by current owners United Distillers in the blended Black & White Whisky. Only 10% is used for the Dalwhinnie Single Malt.
