Blair Castle
This much-visited castle in Blair Atholl is seen here from the track to St Bride's Kirk in Old Blair. In the background is the ridge of Schiehallion (1083m).

Blair Castle
Blair Castle has been the home of the Stewart and Murray families since the 13th Century. The earliest known part of the present castle dates from 1269 and is known as Cumming’s Tower. In the Georgian period the 2nd Duke transformed the medieval structure into a stylish Georgian home of the period. However, in 1746 the castle was laid to siege by Lord George Murray, a supporter of the Jacobite Cause during the uprising. The Duke of Atholl, brother of Lord George, was a supporter of the Hanoverian side. Since then the castle has had a more peaceful history.
