Stained glass window, St John's Kirk, Perth
Detail view of the City of Perth stained glass window in St John's Kirk. This predominantly blue window, situated near the west entrance, is largely obscured and thus difficult to photograph. The window was dedicated in 1975, it was a gift of the Town Council commemorating the link between the Council and the Kirk. Designed by Harvey Salvin, in addition to the keys shown here, the window also depicts symbols of the crown, a gate, ears of corn, fish and a river. St John's Kirk
St John's Kirk is the oldest standing building in Perth, and one of the most important parish churches in Scotland. It was first mentioned in 1126, and has played a central part in the life of the burgh. The original building was completed by 1241, when the Kirk was dedicated by the Bishop of St Andrews, but it has undergone many alterations since then. In 1440 a new choir was built, now the oldest remaining part of the building. The nave was rebuilt later in the century. The distinctive leaded spire, illuminated here, was in place by 1511. http://www.perthcity.co.uk/index.asp?pg=69 (Perth City.co.uk)
