Battleby's living wall
Just outside Scottish Natural Heritage's Battleby Conference Centre. According to the accompanying sign: 'The living wall was created as a demonstration model in October 2018 as part of an SNH Staff Suggestion scheme. If planted with nectar and pollen-rich plant sources, living walls can offer vital food sources to pollinators in urban areas where space is limited. Innovative green infrastructure like this can help transform cities for people and pollinators, helping to create a biodiverse environment we actively want to live, work and play in'.

Des Res at Battleby
The strange structure on the pole is in fact an artificial nest site for Sand Martins provided by Scottish Natural Heritage at the edge of their grounds at Battleby. The structure is full of sand and has holes to allow the birds to excavate nest burrows. See [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4871634] to see the sign explaining more about the construction.

Note the solar panels. Nearly all of Battleby's heating is provided by two biomass (wood pellet) boilers, solar thermal panels and a ground-source heat pump.
