Pump at Stilton
A 19th-century pump with cast-iron column, fluted cap and finial and low spout and lever in the famous cheese village, surrounded by posts and chains and restored in 2000 for the millennium. Dick Williams has established that the pump was first erected in 1826 and remained in use until 1936. Pump and notice board at Stilton
The pump with its protective posts and chains and parish noticeboard stand at the corner of High Street (part of the historic Great North Road) and Church Street in the village famous for its cheese. The High Street, Stilton
On the line of the Roman road, Ermine Street. The Bell Inn, a 17th century coaching inn, is where cheese produced from the area of Melton Mowbray gained popularity with travelers, who called it 'Stilton' cheese.
