Stonal Road, Whittlesey - 2
The long, straight road on the north side of Whittlesey follows the course of a Roman road (the Fen Causeway), and is seen here continuing west, out of the town, towards Stonald Field. 'Stonald' seems to be a name peculiar to Whittlesey, and may derive from 'stone corner' http://epns.nottingham.ac.uk/browse/id/53287358b47fc40c4f0005bf

Stonald Road, Whittlesey
The Hereward Way and Cycle Route 63 following the course of the 'Fen Causeway' Roman road along the north side of Whittlesey. The 'ston' part of the road's name might derive from 'stan' = 'gravel' https://epns.nottingham.ac.uk/browse/The+Isle+of+Ely/Whittlesey/53287358b47fc40c4f0005bf-Stonald+Field , a reference to the hard surface of Roman roads.
