Cadge Bank (drain)
This drain runs parallel to Cross Drain, part of the network of ditches crossing the Fens between the Rivers Glen and Welland. The spot heights on the roads round here are two to three metres above sea level and the surrounding fields are about two metres lower. That makes the water level in the drain at sea level or below. The main Peterborough to Spalding railway line embankment can just be made out in front of the trees on the horizon. The railways and roads are built at a higher level than the surrounding fields to keep communication routes open in the event of flooding.

Cranmore Drove
Typical Lincolnshire Fens landscape. A drove is an ancient name for a livestock moving route and many of the roads, tracks and farm roads in this region bare the name. The Peterborough to Spalding railway crosses the road on the horizon, see Image
