Market Deeping - Church Street
This is the view up Church Street from the Market Place roundabout. The church which gives the street its name can be seen in the distance.
With the new bypass on the A15, the weight of traffic has been taken out of this attractive town.

The White Horse (3) - sign, 27 Church Street, Market Deeping
The picture of the horse has badly faded. On the other side of the sign the picture is almost invisible. The name White Horse is one of the most popular for public houses in England. It was the emblem of the House of Hanover, who ascended to the throne in 1714. The name White Horse was adopted by many inns in the 18th century to demonstrate their loyalty to the new Royal dynasty. In such cases the sign normally shows the horse galloping. In the case of this sign, the horse appears to be a shire type engaged in agricultural duties. This may reflect the fact that the town was the centre of a wide agricultural area, and the importance of agriculture in the local economy.
