Swaffham is a market town in the Breckland district of Norfolk. During the last 50 years the town has grown both in size and in number, its population presently counting just over 6000 and still growing. Not too much damage was done to the buildings during the 1960s and 1970s and the market place still has Georgian buildings and a domed rotunda. The town looks almost the same as it did in the 19th century, however, the railway and the cinema have gone. The town legend tells of the 'Pedlar of Swaffham' who went to London and was about to throw himself off London Bridge when a stranger dissuaded him and related a dream in which he saw buried treasure in a distant village. The pedlar recognised the place as his own garden so he went home and dug up two pots of gold. He is now the town's symbol.

Those of you who have watched the ITV series 'Kingdom' starring Stephen Fry may well recognise this building is the exterior of his solicitors practice in the fictional town of Market Shipborough, aka Swaffham.

Encompassing two Georgian buildings, one in five bays with a rusticated ground floor, dated 1736, and the other, late C18th, plainer and in three bays. Grade II listed. Formerly occupied by a school and then a sixth form centre, current function possibly an antiques showroom.

Fitzroy House, a big mid-Georgian house in brown brick. Brick colours can be tricky, but the listing's description of it as red brick seems somewhat off the mark. Grade II listed. Occupied by Revell, estate agents, and Bella Boo, selling ladies' clothes.
