Old Hunstanton village sign (detail)
Shown on the sign is Roger l’Estrange on his horse with Hunstanton Hall, which he had built, in the background. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5957827 The observant will notice he is holding a spear. This is because he, or whoever is the head of the l’Estrange family, being Lord High Admiral of The Wash, he can lay claim to all things within the distance a man on a horse could throw a spear. The crests on the spandrels are that of the Women’s Institute and the l’Estrange family.

The memorial names the men who joined the Colours during The Great War. Those who were killed or died are identified with a K or D. The reflections are unavoidable as the memorial is attached to the outside wall of the Old Hunstanton Social Club.
