Wereham St. Margaret's church
It is possible that a Norman church once stood here but with the exception of the tower arch all is 13th c., the tower however has a 15th c. upper story surmounted by a brick parapet and pinnacles. Inside the church there is a strange mix of decoration. The nave roof appears to be by Jewson and the chancel roof is painted blue with stars. The walls of north and south aisles are various shades of flaking cream distemper. The octagonal font is devoid of decoration and the round stone pulpit dated 1866 is abysmal. The benches are unattractive pitch pine. Above the chancel arch are the pre-1801 Royal Hanoverian Arms, which have been reduced in width, cutting through the names of the churchwardens of the time. In the chancel east wall are three nice lancet windows with deep splays.
