Jackdaw at Pentney church
A Jackdaw (Corvus monedula) nesting in a putlog hole in the church wall at Pentney, Norfolk. Jackdaws frequently nest in belfries and ruined church towers. Putlog holes are the holes that were used to insert a log to create a working platform of scaffolding during the building of a church. Many were left open in case they were needed again for maintenance of the roof etc.
