Boston Road, Spilsby
The road to the left is Vale Road, which leads to further housing and the Industrial Estate. The buildings on the industrial estate occupy former railway land and those opposite stand on the site of the former Spilsby Station and goods yard, which closed for passengers at the beginning of WWII in 1939. Freight traffic continued though in decline. An upsurge in 1956 was the result of incoming cement products for the aerodrome expansion at East Kirkby, but in 1957 concerns were raised about the state of the railway bridge over the Steeping River. Estimates for a replacement were £20,000, so the railway succumbed to closure and the last locomotive left the branch line on 30th November 1958. The link to the Great Northern Railway closed the following day.
