A site destined for redevelopment being piled. The drilling machine has a concrete pump attached directly to it so that when the drilling depth has been reached the hole is back filled with concrete as the auger is raised. This must be because the ground is too unstable to support an open hole or it may be a slurry being pumped in to hold the soil in place. This would then allow for a steel reinforcing cage to be dropped in the hole. Concrete could then be back filled to the pile hole whilst the slurry is pumped out I await a civil engineer to correct the summary.

There were two self-levelling platforms involved, one to dig out detritus from the river bed, defective pilings and loose bank-side material, and the other to replace the pilings. Smaller craft oversaw the work, or moved pontoons, which carried fuel bowsers and skips, etc.

Houses on Oxford Street back on to the street, the frontage facing the river. The front gardens on the bank are practically non-existent, but the view of the river makes up for that. Strange that the house on the left has no river bank wall, (the only bit missing) so it either collapsed and was cleared away, or never built. The wooden poles, at left, seem to serve no purpose other than to tie a boat to.
