Seen from Job's Lane on a grey and showery October morning. "A church almost entirely of the Dec and Perp styles, except for the N arcade which may be as early as 1300 and the [Victorian] chancel" (Nikolaus Pevsner). "What a glorious church: a most attractive mixture of honey-coloured ragstone, silver-grey ashlar for the buttresses and the battlements that crown one of those features that specially delight E Anglians and their visitors - a clerestory, adorned by flint-and-brick flushwork, and designed to light a remarkable roof" (Norman Scarfe, Shell Guide).
