Memorial to the crew of Halifax bomber LK789
Halifax LK789 MP-L of 76 Sqdn had departed Holme on Spalding Moor at 2209 for Ops Karlsruhe on 25th April 1944. On its return to the UK, it was intercepted at 3000feet, 20km NE of Cambridge by a Luftwaffe intruder captained by Lt Wolfgang Wenning (Stab II/KG51) and shot down for his 5th Abschusse at 0420 It crashed near Colony Farm, Manea at 0422 with the loss of six crew.
