Christchurch: Church Road
View looking south-westwards along Church Road from outside the church. According to local legend, before the church was built, the village was called "Brimstone Hill" after the Brimstone butterfly which is found in the area. The use of the word hill in this description is a fine example of hyperbole, as the OS 1:25,000 scale mapping shows a height of 3 metres in the village against a height of 2 metres in the surrounding fenland!
