Laddus Drove
Fenland soil is peat from when the area was extensive marshland. This gives it the dark colour and makes it prone to subsidence, as is soon obvious when you drive in the area.

There was certainly a farm on this spot in the nineteenth century, but the current buildings are less than fifty years old.

Laddus Drove
Looking towards Friday Bridge. Fenland roads are often slightly undulating as the peat they are built on contracts and compresses. The whole bank vibrates when a lorry drives along it.
