The Red Cow
This former coaching Inn is now in a poor state of repair. It was in its heyday when Donington used to stage massive horse fairs in the 19th & 20th centuries. It is said locally that the animals were stood for two miles in every direction awaiting their fate.

Fire Station
Community Fire Station manned by retained volunteers. It stands almost across the High Street from the entrance to Flinders Park. The platform seen above the roof used to carry the 'buzzer', which was a former air raid siren used to alert the firemen of their required attendance, this method of alarm has now been replaced by the personal alert bleepers. What also has changed is that the once familiar sight of abandoned bicycles, wheels and pedals still spinning, has now been replaced by all modes of motor transport seemingly abandoned, doors wide open as the 'Shout' is answered.

Local Material
House on the south side of High Street, constructed of locally made bricks when Donington had its own brick kiln. This was located to the south west of the village just off Town Dam Lane. Its site can be accurately found at Image, just to the Northwest corner of the ovoid pond marked.

Pillar box
Transplanted here when the post office moved to Image, this is still in use. In fact, it carries one of the "priority postbox" stickers that are part of the response to the Covid-19 epidemic. See Image

Strangely placed sticker
We have collected a number of photographs of the Covid-19 "Priority postbox" stickers, but this is the first I have seen in the mouth of the slot.

Library
The village library is housed in this Georgian building midway along the High St. Close inspection of the gable reveals a tie rod end formed from the letters WD, another connection to William Dodds a local business man. The building has had many uses in its long history such as a cafe, arcade of shops, granary and bakery to name just a few.
