Edinburgh Crescent at Bourne, Lincolnshire
The residential area built on farmland to the north east of Bourne as part of the housing boom following the Second World War brought extra streets and roads to the town. Queen's Road was under construction with Edinburgh Crescent adjoining in 1953, the year that Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in the company of her consort, the Duke of Edinburgh, and so the two names reflected this national celebration.

Cherry blossom in Queen?s Road, Bourne, Lincolnshire
The residential areas built on farmland to the north east of Bourne as part of the housing boom following the Second World War were planted with ornamental trees along the verges such as this flowering cherry in Queen's Road which was under construction in 1953, the year that Queen Elizabeth II was crowned and so the name reflected this national celebration.

Urban laburnum at Bourne, Lincolnshire
The more established residential developments at Bourne built some forty years ago were enhanced by the planting of many trees of assorted species and it is impossible to pass this spot at the junction of Queen's Road and Mill Drove on a sunny day in May without stopping to admire the laburnum which adorns this corner. The yellow flowers gave us the old poetic name of the golden chain tree but they are now less popular for public places today because all parts of the tree including the seeds are poisonous.

The Croft rebuilt
The controversial redevelopment at the Croft has led to the old building being repaired and renovated, almost to the point of being unrecognisable. The builder's sales literature continually refers to it as a Manor House, which is nonsense, it was built in the early 20th century as a family home.
