This building was the offices of an agricultural seed merchant for many years, but after they left it became cosmetically run down very quickly, although it had been re-roofed by the seed merchants and is essentially sound.. It has been divided into two shops and a house since the start of the century.

Built as a Calvinist chapel in 1867 and used as a makeshift military hospital during World War 1. The hall was available for occasional meetings until the early 1990s when it was sold for conversion into an unusual home.

Scaffolding on pavements is now always dressed with foam leg covers, presumably because people no longer look where they are going.

If you look on the left hand side of Image you will see that this plot was once a builder's yard - in fact the rear entrance of a yard which faced into Meadowgate. That yard has been sold for development, and this housing development is part of that. Interestingly, it takes full advantage of the original plot boundary to extend beyond the frontage of the adjacent buildings ( see Image)

The premises of J.H.Wand and the Former Cinema in North Street back onto Meadowgate. The lower brick building in the middleground is the warehouse of Town and County electrical, part of the Wand family's industrial and electrical businesses (Image). It dates from the 1970s. Beyond that the taller brick box (with a galvanised box vent) is the former auditorium of the Tudor Cinema (Image) which has been a Chinese restaurant for the last 20 years. This was opened on 2nd December 1929. It was designed by Nottingham based architect Alfred J. Thraves. The small house in the foreground is unrelated to these businesses, standing in its own plot.

Two new houses built for rent on North Street, using original local bricks recovered from the older buildings on the site for the frontage.

The terrace of cottages on the right of the picture date from 1880 by the Marquis of Exeter, as 'Artisan dwellings'. The land behind them was for many years the workyard of Lindum Construction, who in 2001 sought to demolish the whole site, including the terrace and the adjacent bus station for redevelopment. The resultant local outcry led to the original buildings being retained and the site developed with complimentary buildings. The terrace on the left is Mock Victorian inspired by the original.
