The oldest secular property in Haconby is reputed to be Heggy’s Cottage, built in the late 16th century and now preserved as a rare example of the mud and stud method of construction, the name originating from a former resident, Arthur Headland, who was known locally at Heggy and allowed to remain in residence long after the property had been condemned.
