The Manor House at Kirkby Underwood, near Bourne, Lincolnshire
The finest of the red brick buildings in the village is undoubtedly the Manor House built by the Earl of Ancaster in the late 19th century with a range of contemporary stables and outbuildings and standing on a slight rise in a commanding position overlooking the main street, an attractive property much admired by visitors passing through.

Built by the council
Built as council houses in the late 1930s, this short terrace is visually arresting, with a mix of textures and offset roofs. It looks like I wasn't holding the camera level. I was. There is an iron rod fence in the right foreground and a road sign to confirm it. They do stand at this jaunty angle. "The Council" would have been South Kesteven Rural District Council who had an enviable record of constructing homes for working people in the villages.

"If wet, in the village hall"
Unfortunately the day chosen for the summer Fete in Kirkby Underwood was the wettest of the summer so far, and possibly the wettest of the year so far. The village hall was once the school, of course.
