Fake Chimney
I spoke to the chap building this house. It is a modern house built on the site of a Victorian one, and planning permission depended upon keeping the external appearance, including the chimney on the gable. It is an entirely fake chimney, as can be seen here.

The surviving pub
With all the fuss about the fate of the two former pubs at the crossroads, it is easy to forget that Morton has another pub, which is still doing good business. This is the five bells, a very good place to eat.

Morton Church, at night
The church, at the eastern end of High Street, is illuminated each night by intense lamps at ground level - which should prevent theft from the church.

The Five Bells at Morton, near Bourne, Lincolnshire
The Five Bells public house stands next to the parish church at Morton and it is this association that gave the hostelry its name because it is within the sound of the bells of St John the Baptist Church. Many English villages have an inn named the Bell, four, five, six – in fact bells in all numbers up to twelve are numerous. The church at Morton did indeed have five bells when this inn was built two centuries ago but a sixth was added in 1892.
