Fake Chimney
I spoke to the chap building this house. It is a modern house built on the site of a Victorian one, and planning permission depended upon keeping the external appearance, including the chimney on the gable. It is an entirely fake chimney, as can be seen here.

The surviving pub
With all the fuss about the fate of the two former pubs at the crossroads, it is easy to forget that Morton has another pub, which is still doing good business.
