Wild flowers in Meadow Drove at Bourne, Lincolnshire
Earthworks on construction sites throw up dormant seeds which seize the opportunity to flower again and bring a fresh burst of colour to the countryside such as here in Meadow Drove after excavations to lay new water pipes and the banks on either side of the trench burst into flower with poppies, ox-eye daisies and other hardy species to delight passing motorists.

Allotment scarecrow at Bourne, Lincolnshire
The scarecrow has an established place in English folklore and fiction because it was once a familiar sight in the countryside to frighten the birds away from growing crops but they are a less familiar sight on allotments such as here in Meadow Drove, just off the Spalding Road in Bourne, where one gardener is to be commended for his ingenuity in protecting his vegetables. But although he may have green fingers, he confessed to recruiting expert help from his art student daughter to make this life-sized painted model standing guard over the cauliflowers.
