Cairnbaan transport interchange?
Once upon a time passengers arriving from Oban at Crinan aboard the steamer "Chevalier" could take a small steamboat, the "Linnet", along the Crinan Canal and at Ardrishaig change to another steamer for the southward journey down Loch Fyne to Glasgow. Today, from this photograph it might appear that to save the time taken to go down the four Cairnbaan Locks, one could disembark from the smaller boat at the top lock, No 8, and change to a West Coast Motors bus to Lochgilphead, whence there would be an express coach to Glasgow. The truth is more prosaic. The 429 service does not run on a Sunday, when this picture was taken, so the bus driver, who lives in Cairnbaan, had parked his bus nearby in a convenient layby to await its first journey into Lochgilphead the following morning.
