Hanborough Station
The station opened in 1853 and for some reason was named Handborough. It took until 1992 for the railway to accept this was a mistake and remove the redundant D.
I have been sent some more info re the station name :- "I noticed your comment about the name of the station - Hanborough/Handborough.
I've been researching some family history in Hanborough, and I've noticed that the village was recorded as Handborough in the 1881 & 1891 censuses. It is recorded as Hanborough in the 1901 census, but Handborough again in the 1911 census. So it seems that the railway company were following local practice when they named the station Handborough. On the other hand, the Ordnance Survey maps of the late 19th century consistently call it Hanborough, and also mark the station as Hanborough."
Thanks Rich Tea.

Plaque at Hanborough Station
This photo shows the plaque at Hanborough Station in Main Road, Long Hanborough. It has the following wording:
This plaque was unveiled on Friday 24th July 2015 by the Prime Minister, Rt Hon David Cameron MP and marks the 50th Anniversary of the arrival at this station of the funeral train of Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill.
The train arrived here on Saturday January 30th 1965 as its final destination, having departed from London Waterloo station and was pulled by Battle of Britain Class locomotive 34051 named "Winston Churchill".
At that time the station board here read "Hanborough for Blenheim".
Winston Churchill had been born at Blenheim Palace on November 30th 1874 and his body was laid to rest in the churchyard of St Martin's parish church of Bladon after a state funeral which began at St Paul's in London.
He rests by both his parents and is overlooked by Blenheim Palace where he had been born 90 years before.
Bladon Churchyard lies approximately 1¼ miles due east of this station.
This memorial was erected by the people of West Oxfordshire with the kind permission of First Great Western Railways.
For SatNav purposes, the postcode of Hanborough Station is OX29 8LA.
