Off Corn Street is one of Witney's enclaves of 19th century workers' housing, a reminder that Witney was one of the few places in or near the Cotswolds where cloth production survived the industrial revolution.

The Butchers Arms (1), 104 Corn Street, Witney, Oxon
A Grade II listed building, originally a private house, dating from the 17th century and remodelled in the late 18th century. Later alterations and an extension. At the time this photograph was taken in June 2011 the building was in use as a public house and had been for a very long time. It was long ago run by Phillips Brewery, then Halls. It was closed for a while and then re-opened in 1973 as part of the Enterprise Inns chain. By 2013 it has closed again and re-opened that year as a restaurant called Himalayan Spice. That didn't last very long and currently the premises are used as offices by the Mortgage Company Oxfordshire Limited. In the photograph an arch can be seen which was probably at one time part of the former pub. It now leads to a residential street called Coopers Mews. Image
