Marsh Gibbon: The Plough
The Plough is on Castle Street and is a Grade II Listed Building. The English Heritage website describes it, with a couple of minor grammatical clarifications from the photographer, thus:- "Public house. 17th Century. Coursed rubble stone, old tile roof, large brick stack with pilasters and off-set head to right of centre. 2 storeys and attic, 4 bays. Leaded casements with moulded wooden cornices above: 4-light to ground floor of second bay and above door, remainder 3-light. 2 gabled dormers with 3-light casements, that to left with leaded central pane. Lobby entry in third bay has original 9-panelled oak door in moulded frame. Single storey extension to right has hipped tiled roof. 20th Century extensions to rear right."

The Plough (1), Church Street, Marsh Gibbon, Bucks
A 17th century Grade II listed building with 20th century extensions. It sells Oxfordshire Ales and Bicester Beers, according to the signs outside. Oxfordshire Ales are brewed in the village in what is described as an award winning craft brewery. Bicester Beers seems to be associated with or part of Oxfordshire Ales. This public house, which is also known as the Plough Inn, sells food. Image Image

The Plough (2) - sign, Church Street, Marsh Gibbon, Bucks
Many pubs are named the Plough, reflecting its great importance in the life of the countryside. It would also have been easily recognisable to people in the past, when most were unable to read and write. Usually the sign shows the agricultural implement that was essential for turning over the soil in preparation for the new year's sowing of seeds, as is the case here. But sometimes they will show the star constellation of Ursa Major, which is often known as The Plough. Image Image
