Abingdon: Salami's Fish Bar, Ock Street
The roof indicates that this is one of the older buildings on Ock Street: it has the look of a pre-Victorian building that would originally have been one of a number straggling westwards in a scattered fashion, later swallowed up by the expanding town.

Abingdon: ghost-sign on Ock Street
The white paint around the ghost-sign suggests that it survived by being hidden under a billboard. Creeping in at the left, part of the sign on Salami's Fish Bar (see Image); showing, confusingly, not a fish but a chicken.

The White Horse (1), 189 Ock Street, Abingdon, Oxon
Located on the corner of Spring Road and Ock Street, this Grade II listed public house is owned by Greene King of Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk. It is one of their "Flame Grill" branded public houses, with an emphasis on food. The core of the building is 18th century, with later additions. Image Image

The White Horse (3) - sign, 189 Ock Street, Abingdon, Oxon
The sign is on a post at the front of the pub's garden adjacent to Ock Street. The name White Horse is one of the most popular for public houses in England. It was the emblem of the House of Hanover, who ascended to the throne in 1714. The name White Horse was adopted by many inns in the 18th century to demonstrate their loyalty to the new Royal dynasty. In such cases the sign normally shows the horse galloping but this one just shows the head. However this would not be the original sign and certainly the building dates from the 18th century and may well have been a pub at that time. Image Image
