Stairs to the library, Mansfield College
In contrast to the late Gothic style of most of Basil Champneys' college building, the staircase is austerely early Gothic in inspiration.

Mansfield College, Oxford
Founded as Spring Hill College for the training of ministers in the Congregational church in 1838, the college transferred to Oxford in 1886 and took the name Mansfield after its three chief benefactors, a brother and two sisters. The new buildings were designed by Basil Champneys who worked on many school buildings and here set out to create a sumptuous contribution to the Oxford collegiate tradition, a composition suggesting incremental growth. The college became a permanent private hall in 1955 and full college of Oxford University in 1995. This view shows the central range with the hall to the right of the slightly off-centre tower. The library occupies the first floor of the projecting wing in the left.

Rhodes House, South Parks Road, Oxford
Rhodes House, built 1926-1928, is the headquarters of the Rhodes Trust, which funds international graduate students at Oxford, and serves as a meeting point in the town for those Rhodes Scholars. More details of the building can be found at http://www.rhodeshouseoxford.com/the-venue/our-history/ and more information about Rhodes Scholarships at https://www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk/ . The Trust serves as a memorial to the empire-builder Cecil Rhodes, but it is probably fair to say that his original vision would have been for a student body rather whiter than is now the case.
