Church of St Michael at the North Gate
Dating from about 1050 this is probably the oldest surviving building in Oxford, rivalled only by the castle tower, it was originally situated just within the North Gate, of the city, protected to the north by the city wall. http://www.smng.org.uk/history.htm

Ship Street, Oxford
Ship Street derives its name from the Anglo-Saxon Cheap, meaning market: the same word that gives us our modern adjective cheap, and the many place-names with the element "Chipping".
The college buildings on the left, and indeed many of the houses on the right, belong to Jesus College.
