Great Western half-way houses, Steventon
Steventon's railway station has long gone but this pair of houses built in 1839-40 provide a reminder of its importance as a half-way point on the Paddington-Bristol line. Station House, the nearer in the picture, was built for the railway's superintendent and until 1843 board meetings were held here. The GWR's resident engineer J H Gandell and Isambard Kingdom Brunel are jointly credited with the design.

High speed train at Steventon
In the early days of HST operation on the Great Western, a class 253 heads westward through Steventon, viewed from the road bridge. Another contributor's view from 30 years later Image shown how much the growth in vegetation over that time leaves little in the way of visual clues.

Looking at the station
Looking along the railway which will take you to Swindon and Bristol. I think Steventon station used to be just ahead on the right. Railbuff came to my rescue with this photo taken 30 years previously which confirms there was a station Image
