Didcot Railway Centre - autotrain at Oxford Road
This is on the centre's demonstration line that was running a two coach autotrain with 2-6-2T No. 4144 providing the motive power. It was a very gloomy Saturday morning.

Transfer shed - Didcot Railway Centre
This was used to transfer goods and passengers from broad gauge on the right to standard gauge on the left. This has been relocated from nearby and is a fascinating survivor from one of Brunel's less successful periods (to be fair the GWR was a great success but he failed to convince others to adopt broad gauge).

Didcot Railway Centre
The Didcot Railway Centre has a number of mock stations resembling different periods. This is Burlescombe based on the late 19th century. The shed is called the Transfer Shed and was originally constructed c1863 west of Didcot station before being brought here in the 1970s. Its purpose was to transfer goods from the broad gauge being used by the Great Western Railway at that time to the standard gauge being used elsewhere. The line west to Swindon was broad gauge and the line north to Oxford was standard gauge. The engine is Fire Fly and was built at Didcot in 2005 to represent one of the earliest broad gauge locomotives of the Great Western Railway.

Didcot Railway Centre - steam railmotor in need of some attention
No. 93 is a rebuild of one of the Great Western Railway's steam railmotors that were the predecessors of modern multiple units. This was originally built at Swindon in 1908 and rebuilt with a new vertical boiler and power bogie, entering service in 2011 and appearing at various venues in England. The boiler certificate expired in spring 2021 and it is currently stored in the transfer shed awaiting a boiler overhaul and some considerable attention to the wood cladding that has not lasted well. It's a lovely thing and I hope it won't be too long before it is back in service.
