The map shows the public right of way as going along the road at the bottom of the slope here on the RAF Benson site. This isn't right. The path runs along a narrow fenced corridor outside the perimeter fence. Image

Bungalow on Beggarsbush Hill
The London Road Inn was on this site until it burnt down in 1942 after which the ground floor was rebuilt as a bungalow. This may be the site of the Cottage PH which had an Ordnance Survey benchmark carved on it during the levelling of the Basingstoke to Coventry survey line in 1850-1856. See http://www.bench-marks.org.uk/bm19831 The mark is shown on old maps from 1877 to 1912, but not afterwards. The building is shown on maps up to 1960 as Cottage PH, and London Road Inn in 1967, which seems to contradict the burning of the London Inn in 1942.
